1. The tool I learned the most about was the pottery wheel. I had never tried working on the wheel but it became one of my favorite tools this semester. The purpose of the pottery wheel is to make smooth and even pottery by spinning the wheel. You spin by changing speeds with the foot pedal beside the wheel. You can use the wheel to make many different shapes and styles of pottery. 2. At the beginning of the semester I didn't know anything about pottery. Now I know how to use a wheel and other sculpture tools like ribbon tools to add designs to my pieces. I also learned how to make sculptures out of random materials like styrofoam and paper. I am more creative now that I have seen everyone's different styles and ideas. My own style has changed a lot this semester because now I know different tools I can use for different tasks. Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. My most successful project was paper mache. It was successful because I learned how to build up facial features and how to use colors to make the face look sunken in and pointed out in certain places. For this project I got a mask from the dollar store and used paper mache and hot glue to make new facial features. I really enjoyed making the designs up as I went and seeing where I could add new designs, like the nose ring. This is also the best looking piece I have made this year. What did you find most difficult about this class? This could be anything from gathering materials, to generating projects ideas, to applying a particular technique. What could be done to resolve this issue in the future? The most difficult part of this class was coming up with ideas I was proud of. I had a lot of ideas but I never really liked any of them. I ended up changing most of my projects half way through. I was never proud of most of the pieces I made in the middle of the project, but I normally ended up liking them as I finished. In the future I can brainstorm more until I think of something I really like instead of settling for the easiest option. What is your least favorite material to work with and why? How did you deal with it, what didn’t you like about it. Please explain.
My least favorite material to work with was styrofoam. I didn't like how it sounded or looked. I just ignored what I didn't like about it and kept working. I made a styrofoam snake that actually didn't look that bad. I cut a base out of styrofoam and hot glued strips on the top. I burned myself a lot with the glue and that added to the list of why I didn't like the is project.
